Research
Van Tartwijk examines the effect of inequality on discrimination through the lens of social psychology and behavioural economics. In his research, he utilises game theory and economic games to create simplified models of real-life situations. These models allow him to experimentally investigate whether inequality affects discrimination in cooperation and conflict, determine whether this effect is present across cultures, and examine whether one's socioeconomic status in society has an influence on this effect.
Short CV
Van Tartwijk completed his bachelor's degree (cum laude) in Psychology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2018. He specialised in social and organisational psychology. For his thesis, he investigated the role that morality, competence, and group goals play in the process of forming impressions of others. In 2024, he finished his research master in Social and Eonomic Psychology at Leiden University. He interned at the Amsterdam Cooperation Lab where he worked to continue the development of the Cooperation Databank. For his master's thesis, Van Tartwijk conducted a meta-analysis on the effect of competition between groups on cooperation within groups. Currently, he is a PhD candidate investigating the effect of economic inequality on conflict and cooperation within and between groups.
