Tycho de Graaf is a Professor of Technology and Private Law. His research and teaching falls under civil law and focuses on technology and private law.
Professor De Graaf joined the Department of Civil Law of the Institute of Private Law in Leiden on 1 August 2017. He teaches general private law and an elective course in Technology and Private Law. His research focuses on the interdisciplinary SAILS programme (Society, Artificial Intelligence and Life Sciences). Before entering academia full time, he worked as a lawyer at NautaDutilh N.V. for 20 years and in 2006 he was awarded a PhD in Leiden for his thesis on liability limitations.
Professor De Graaf is in charge of the postgraduate Contracts specialisation course, part of Juridisch PAO Leiden, and is a lecturer on the postgraduate specialisation modules National and International Contracts and Informatics Law at the Grotius Academy. He also works as Editor of the Dutch journal Computerrecht, a Deputy Judge at the District Court of The Hague and an arbitrator at the Foundation for the Settlement of Automation Disputes (Stichting Geschillenoplossing Organisatie & Automatisering, SGOA).
