Research
My current research is based on the language accomodation between the Egyptian Arabic speaking immigrants interacting with the Maghrebi Majority (chosen dialects: Algerian and Tunisian Arabic) in Paris (France).
The study focuses on linguistic contact between Egyptian and Tunisian Arabic speakers in (mostly northern) Paris and suburbs the 18th arrondissement, Saint-Denis, Aubervilliers, Sarcelles, Créteil, Génévilliers. It explores discourse analysis to demonstrate how speakers adapt their speech in natural interactions, particularly in these urban meeting points.
The research examines mutual speech accommodation and the linguistic strategies employed in discourse. This contact linguistics’ framework investigates phenomena such as code-switching, lexical borrowing, and pragmatic shifts during communication.
