Sofia de Jong was appointed as a PhD candidate at the Department of Company Law, part of the Institute of Private Law, in November 2023. Her empirical legal research focuses on the effectiveness of Dutch company law as an instrument for influencing behaviour to achieve sustainability goals.

Sofia de Jong started her bachelor's degree in Law at Leiden University in 2016. The following year, she was also admitted to the Honours College Law. She completed her bachelor's degree and the Honours programme in 2020. Following this, Sofia started a master's degree in Civil Law and a master's degree in Company Law (cum laude) at Leiden University, graduating in 2023.
Throughout her studies, Sofia organised LLP meetings for first-year students as a student tutor. She also worked as a student assistant for the Empirical Legal Studies research group from 2020 to 2023. Sofia has also completed internships at a Dutch and an international law firm. In addition, she completed a research internship at the Department of Company Law of Leiden University and also participated on an exchange programme at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Business & Economics at the Università di Bologna.
