Sjoerd Keulen holds the Special Chair in Public Audit, Policy Evaluation and Accountability established and funded by the Netherlands Court of Audit since 2023. Sjoerd's teaching and research focuses on policy research with impact. Research-based information is crucial for assessing the performance of governments and public organisations. When those research findings are not used, research and the oversight based on it are ineffective. Sjoerd researches how public institutions can strengthen accountability. He will also work on innovative auditing methods, with a particular focus on new forms of efficiency audits (value for money audits), data-driven real-time experiments, (historical) lessons learned and audit standards. This will include using the field of policy evaluation to strengthen the research practice of public auditing.
