Short CV
Sjoerd Huisman is an assistant professor in the Methodology & Statistics unit of the Institute of Psychology. He teaches statistics courses to psychology and artificial intelligence students and is one of the teachers in the Statistics and Data Science master. Besides his teaching, he does research on non-linear dimension reduction methods. He is also interested in good ways of doing and presenting science, and a contributor to the “Grafiekpolitie” (a visualisation-focussed part of the Leiden University fact checkers “Nieuwscheckers”).
Sjoerd started working as an assistant professor in 2018. He studied Archaeology (BA), Biology (BSc) and Statistics (MSc) at Leiden University and he did his PhD in Bioinformatics at Delft University of Technology. His thesis was on methodology to find the genetic basis of brain diseases, while making use of gene activity data measured in the brains of healthy individuals.
Teaching
Sjoerd teaches in the bachelor's programme Psychology (Perspective on Career Planning), the master's programme Psychology (Applied Data Analysis) and the master's programme Statistical Science for the Life and Behavioural Sciences (Multivariate analysis and multidimensional data analysis).
