Simona Demková is an Assistant professor in European law at the Europa Institute. She leads a collaborative research project on the 'EU's human-centered digital transformation' funded by Leiden University Starter Grant. Her research expertise covers a wide range of European law, including EU administrative and constitutional law, the protection of fundamental rights, as well as digitalisation and regulation of novel technologies.

Simona Demková is an Assistant professor in European law at the Europa Institute. She leads a collaborative research project on the 'EU's human-centered digital transformation' funded by Leiden University Starter Grant. Her research expertise covers a wide range of European law, including EU administrative and constitutional law, the protection of fundamental rights, as well as digitalisation and regulation of novel technologies.

Simona has been a visiting scholar at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa (2024) and the European University Istitute (2020). Before joining Leiden University, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Luxembourg within the framework of interdisciplinary (law and computer science) project – DILLAN (Digitalisation, Law and Innovation). She completed her PhD thesis at the University of Luxembourg under the supervision of Prof. Herwig Hofmann. Simona holds a master’s degree in International Relations from Central European University in Hungary and an Advanced LL.M. in European and international human rights law from Leiden University.

Simona is an author of several publications, including a monograph titled ‘Automated Decision-Making and Effective Remedies’ published by Edward Elgar in 2023. She regularly presents her research in international academic conferences, workshops and seminars. She is an active member of various scholarly networks, in particular, she acts as the Head of Section on Digital State for the Digital Constitutionalist and as a member of the International Society of Public Law (ICON-S). She is also a national rapporteur for the Tech Litigation Database, developed as part of the Algorithmic Fairness for Asylum Seekers and Refugees (AFAR) project based at the Centre for Fundamental Rights and the Hertie School of Governance.
