Simay Çetin is a PhD candidate in the NWO-funded project “At Home Otherwise: Rethinking Heritage through Diversity.” Her research project aims to analyze diversity and everyday home-making in allotment gardens through the lens of food heritage.

Simay received her Bachelor of Arts from Sciences Po Paris and holds a Master of Science in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (Global Ethnography) from Leiden University. Her thesis “Interpreting culture through embodied practice: an anthropological study of sexuality among Dutch women with Turkish migrant backgrounds” explored the complex ways in which Turkish-Dutch women experienced sexuality through digital ethnography and timeline drawings. It was awarded both the FSW Thesis Award in 2021 and the Speckmann Prize in 2022. Her research interests include anthropology of the body, gender and sexuality, migration, food, heritage, home-making and sensory ethnography.
