Sebastian Frowein is a PhD Candidate at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs, Leiden University.
Sebastian Frowein completed his MA. in International Studies and Diplomacy at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London in 2010. He then worked as Reporting Officer for UNHCR in Bunia, D.R. Congo (DRC) from 2011-2012. From 2013-2015 he held various positions with Doctors Without Borders, in Berlin, Amsterdam and the DRC. After his second assignment in the Congo, he worked as a Humanitarian Affairs Officer in Access Monitoring and Deconfliction for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sana’a, Yemen. Following this deployment, he return to university and completed an LLM in International Human Rights and International Law at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), which he completed in 2018. Since then, Sebastian has been deployed to the UN Peacekeeping Mission MINUSMA in Mali as a Protection of Civilians Officer. Sebastian research focus is on the tensions between PoC and political mandates in peacekeeping mission marked by asymmetric warfare.
