Roxane de Massol de Rebetz is an Assistant Professor of Law & Society at the Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Governance and Society at Leiden University.
She holds an LLM in Public Law (magna cum laude) from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and an MSc in Crime and Criminal Justice (cum laude) from Leiden University. She obtained her PhD in Law & Society from Leiden University, where her research focused on transit migration, migrant smuggling, and human trafficking in an Intra-Schengen mobility context. One of her thesis articles earned her the Meijers Prize for best publication in 2021.
Roxane’s research focuses on security-related policies, laws, and practices from a socio-legal lens. She investigates the practices of security actors—ranging from lawmakers to prosecutors and police officers—across various fields such as counterterrorism, extremism, organized crime, and migration management.
