Rhea Roy Mammen, PhD (Law), is currently an Affiliated/Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Van Vollenhoven Institute (VVI), The Netherlands, where she is engaged in the project titled “Law Schools’ Response to Climate Justice.” The project is implemented in both India and The Netherlands.
Before relocating to The Netherlands, she served as Senior Assistant Professor at Ramaiah College of Law, Bengaluru. A Gold Medalist (Summa Cum Laude) in her graduation, she is also an alumna of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU, Bengaluru), where she completed her LL.M. in Human Rights (Summa Cum Laude) and her PhD (Cum Laude). Her doctoral research focused on “A Study of Experiential Legal Education in India,” which employed both qualitative and quantitative empirical research methods.
She has been an International Fellow, having served as an Indo-Canadian Shastri Fellow to Canada and a Linneus Palme Fellow to Sweden. Additionally, she is a Harvard Certified Trainer in Higher Education Learning.
She has contributed to various international and national projects, notably the UNDP project on Biodiversity, the Government of India’s project on India’s response to the Paris Climate Change Convention, and the NCW project on women’s reproductive rights.
Her areas of expertise include Human Rights, Environmental Law, and Legal Education, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches. She enjoys looking at different ways to connect global north and South, for which she co-founded of Jusfocus Research Institute, that connects India and the Netherlands for sustainability and research. Under which she has organized various International workshops bringing together scholars from India and Netherlands and other cross border trainings.
She has authored three books: Handbook on Legal Research Methodology, which simplifies research methodology through visual representation; PhD for All (Legal) Souls, a companion book for legal scholars navigating their PhD journey; and Expanding the Scope of Legal Research: Looking Beyond the Traditional Areas of Research, which provides examples of interdisciplinary approaches to legal research. She has organized various International workshops bringing together scholars from India and Netherlands and other cross border trainings.
She also serves as an editor and reviewer for numerous publications, including books and journal articles.
