Rebecca Aili Ploof is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Political Science.
Rebecca Aili Ploof is Assistant Professor at Leiden University’ Institute of Political Science. Her interests include the history of political thought and the environment. Her work explores how earlier political philosophers understood humanity’s relationship to nature and how this can inform environmental politics today.
Before joining the faculty at Leiden, Ploof was the Levy Fellow in Politics and the History of Ideas at The City College of New York, CUNY and Lecturer on Social Studies at Harvard University. She earned her PhD in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 2015.
Ploof’s research has received support from the UCLA Center for 17th and 18th Century Studies; the American Political Science Association; the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; and the Rifkind Center the Humanities and the Arts. Her work has been published in History of Political Thought, Political Theory, and The Review of Politics.
