My name is Pim van der Helm. I teach history at Thomas More Hogeschool in Rotterdam, where future primary school teachers are trained en schooled. My main field of interest is literature in it's historical context. I am convinced that children should be acquainted with texts like Vanden vos reynaerde of Karel ende Elegast, because these texts can function as a tool to understand the present, by looking at the past. Related to this insight is the ability to make well informed choices involving the future. This what my PhD research is about: literature historical reasoning in primary school.
