Peter Castenmiller works at PBLQ, a consultancy firm for innovations in the public domain. Here he acts, among other things, as project manager and as researcher and consultant. Previously, Castenmiller was a lecturer at Fontys Bestuursacademie (knowledge area of domestic governance), worked at SGBO, the Research and Advisory Bureau of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities, and at the Social and Cultural Planning Office. From 2013 to 2021, Castenmiller was a member of the Dtuch Electoral Council (Kiesraad).

Castenmiller studied political science at the University of Amsterdam and obtained his PhD there on a dissertation on political involvement of citizens in local government. He regularly publishes on developments in decentralised government, on the positioning and functioning of decentralised courts of audit and on quality improvement of the local government.
