Research
My research focuses on three regions in the Eurasian steppe belt - the Dushanbe/Ferghana valley and Northern Afghanistan, the Alma-Ata region in Kazakhstan, and Northern Mongolia and the Transbaikal region in Russia. I am creating a novel methodology using developments in materiality studies, such as assemblage theory and human-thing entanglements, to study processes of globalisation in burial sites in these regions. By developing object genealogies and objectscapes of these regions, I hope to show how objects - rather than only human actors - played an important role in the complicated processes of globalisation in the Eurasian steppe.
