Merel Brüning is Research Assistant with the Landscapes of Survival Project, directed by prof. dr. Peter Akkermans. She is working on the interpretation and publication of the cairn graves of Jebel Qurma in North-Eastern Jordan and on the stratigraphy and architecture of the Middle Assyrian fortified settlement at Tell Sabi Abyad in Syria. She was assistant field director at Tell Sabi Abyad, where she has excavated from 1999-2010, and has been involved in the survey and excavations of the Jebel Qurma Archaeological Landscape Project since 2012.
