Meng Li started as a PhD researcher at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) in November 2020, working on quantifying the effectiveness of nature-based solutions in cities.
Professional experience
Meng received her Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) from the College of Architecture and Landscape at Peking University in 2018. During her master’s education, Meng specialized in investigating the urbanization and landscape transition of cities in China. Her master thesis explored the social-ecological dynamics on the community level from the perspective of spatial-temporal transition of the rural landscape.
After graduation, Meng had worked as a research fellow in Prof. Kongjian Yu’s research group at Peking University, joint with Turenscape (a company of urban planning and design), which made a perfect experience for her to be involved in the Industry-Research Collaboration. During this time, her work had a focus on method research on ecological planning and the application of the methods to coordinate urban development and ecological protection in actual planning projects. Using ArcGIS, examples of her work include simulating flooding processes aiming for urban stormwater management and simulating animal movement routes aiming for habitat conservation.
Research topic
Meng started her PhD project at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) in November 2020. Her research aims to quantify the effectiveness of nature-based solutions (NbS) in cities, with a specific focus on the identification of urban NbS characters and their potential for providing multiple benefits and a comprehensive assessment considering multiple values and the demand-supply perspective. Ultimately, her research will contribute to an improved understanding of NbS effectiveness, which can help scientists assess the impacts and multiple benefits of NbS interventions in a structurally and consistent way and assist decision-makers to make optimal choices.
