Short CV

I am an assistant professor at the department of Methodology & Statistics at the Institute of Psychology. I obtained my PhD from the University of Amsterdam (2017) on research about the investigation of change in health-related quality of life. Such measures are used in clinical practice to understand the impact of treatment and disease from the patient’s viewpoint. I used structural equation modeling techniques to detect changes in the meaning of self-evaluations, which is also referred to as ‘response shift’. This research was partly carried out at the department of Medical Psychology of the Academic Medical Centre. After obtaining my PhD I started as an assistant professor at Leiden University (2016).

Research

My research focusses on the development and application of advanced statistical techniques for the evaluation and interpretation of longitudinal data, from simple pre-posttest designs to complex and intensive longitudinal data designs (e.g. momentary assessment). I am specifically interested in structural equation modeling techniques (e.g. factor analysis) and possible violations of measurement invariance (e.g. measurement bias or differential item functioning), but my interests also include more general psychometric topics (e.g. how to operationalise and interpret different types of change).
