Research
My research focuses on the early and high medieval, urban development of Arnhem in relation to its immediate and wider area. This subject has been speculated about for decades; the various insights have created an ambiguous and incoherent image. The ambition of the research is to remove ambiguities by using the current database. By integrating factual data in the field of archaeology, landscape and history, existing hypotheses can be tested and new, coherent knowledge and insights about Arnhem's urban development can be gained. The research concerns both literature study and practical work: critical analyses of excavations conducted in the past (finds and contexts) and targeted field testing.
Curriculum vitae
In the period 1995-2000, I studied Theoretical Archaeology in Leiden. After graduating, I worked successively as an archaeologist in Vlaardingen (2000-2005), as senior project leader and head of the department at ARC BV (2006), and from 2007 onwards as city archaeologist and senior management advisor at the municipality of Arnhem.
