Mariska Jung is the secretary of the Institute for Social Justice (in development) at Leiden University, led by Judi Mesman.
In addition, Jung is a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science and RHEA, the Centre for Gender, Diversity and Intersectionality at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, under the supervision of Gily Coene and Iman Lechkar. She received a doctoral scholarship from EDGE, the strategic research programme Evaluating Democratic Governance in Europe at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She has taught in the Flemish inter-university master's programme in Gender and Diversity, as well as in the bachelor's programme in Political Science at the VUB. Jung is also affiliated with the Race-Religion Constellation project, led by Anya Topolski at Radboud University.
In 2022, Jung received a Fulbright Schuman scholarship to work for six months as a visiting scholar at the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies and the Center for the Study of Sexual Culture, led by Mel Y. Chen at the University of California, Berkeley in the United States. Jung graduated cum laude three times: from the University of Amsterdam (BSc in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences and BA in Philosophy) and from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London in the United Kingdom (MSc in Migration, Mobility, and Development).
Jung’s areas of expertise include gender and queer studies, critical race theory, migration studies, and animal studies. Her PhD research explores the entanglement of politics around race, religion, and animals in the Dutch context, and her articles have been published in the Journal of Race, Ethnicity and Politics, Religions, Tijdschrift voor Genderstudies, and the Birkbeck Law Review.
