Marijke Veerman is a PhD Candidate at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology and the Institute of Private Law, since September 2020.
Marijke Veerman graduated from Leiden Law School in 2018 and holds a master's degree in criminal law (cum laude). During her studies, she spent a semester abroad at the Université Panthéon-Assas Paris II, worked as a student assistant at the Institute for the Interdisciplinary Study of the Law and interned at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. After graduation, she worked for the Bureau for Criminal Law Studies of the Public Prosecution Service (Wetenschappelijk Bureau van het Openbaar Ministerie) and as a junior lecturer for the Criminal Law department at Leiden Law School.
Since September 2020, she is a PhD Candidate at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology and the Institute of Private Law.
Research
Her PhD project is part of the research project 'Conflictoplossende Instituties'. In her PhD project, she focuses on the difficulties courts may face when subjecting multinational companies to measures of law enforcement. She aims to investigate the possible causes for the (perceived) untouchability of multinational companies for courts and the desirability of extrajudicial methods of settling cases involving multinationals.
