Maartje van Diest is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Political Science, where she researches how cultural stereotypes among European Commission personnel influence the enforcement of EU law across EU member-states. This study is part of the ERC-funded project “EUROTYPES”, directed by Dr. Adina Akbik, which investigates the impact of cultural stereotypes in EU multi-level policy enforcement.
Maartje holds a BSc in Management of International Social Challenges from Erasmus University Rotterdam (2021), during which her interest in the European Union first took shape. She further developed these interests at Utrecht University, where she earned an MSc in Research in Public Administration and Organizational Science (2024). Building on these experiences, Maartje’s research interests now center on European politics, Euroscepticism, EU enlargement, and EU enforcement.
