Lingli started as a PhD researcher at the Industrial Ecology department of CML in September 2022, conducting research on the built environment and sustainability.
Professional experience
Lingli Hou is PhD Candidate of Industrial Ecology at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) at Leiden University. Lingli obtained her Master of Environmental Economics from Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences in 2022, and bachelor of Economics from Nanjing University in 2018. During her master study, Lingli focused on the relationship of economy, urbanization and the environment. Specifically, she applied spatial models and geographic information systems (GIS) to explore the effect of economic growth and urbanization on air pollution, trying to figure out methods to improve air quality from the perspective of Environmental Economics.

Lingli’s research interests include the built environment and sustainability. She is currently conducting research on material stocks/flows of construction materials of Belt & Road Initiative projects and improving material efficiency.
