Lan started as a PhD researcher at the Environmental Biology department of CML in September 2022. He investigates the fate and effects of Advanced Materials in aquatic systems.
Professional experience
After a BSc in Biology of Organisms from Université de Rennes (France) in 2020, Lan obtained his MSc in Biology of Environmental Change from the University of Eastern Finland (Finland) in June 2022. During his studies, Lan grew an interest in understanding the effects of anthropogenic activities on organisms, including humans, and the environment.
Lan conducted his MSc research project in the research group of Aquatic Ecology and Behavioural Ecology (UEF) where he assessed the effects of nanoplastics on the toxicity of perfluotooctanoic acid in a freshwater cyprinid. At the same time, he participated in the development of analytical methods to quantify the trophic transfer of sub-micron plastic particles.
Research topic
Lan started as a PhD researcher at the Environmental Biology department of CML in September 2022. His PhD falls under the scope of the ERC EcoWizard project (Innovative nanomaterials require ecologically-based safety assessment). He focuses on the effects of advanced materials on molecular pathways and their translation into physiological responses. Eventually, his work will allow a better understanding of advanced materials' mechanism of action and the refinement of chronic toxicity guidelines.
