Short CV
Kim Molenaar-Van Drie completed her Masters degree in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Leiden University in 2013. She specialized in Global Economy and Culture and conducted fieldwork among Afrikaans speaking South Africans in the Netherlands. At the moment she works on a PhD proposal on the effects of mining in Malawi.
Kim currently works as OOM (research and teaching assistant) for the institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology. She leads study groups, supports colleagues with their teaching and helps organizing events like conferences and the yearly careers day for students.
Research
Kim conducted her MA fieldwork among Afrikaans speaking South Africans in the Netherlands and her thesis shows how this category of ‘allochtones’ has a particular place in Dutch society as a result of history, language, (elite) class and the reasons for settling in the Netherlands.
