Karel Kuipers is currently a PhD-candidate in the 'Neanderthals and us' research project.
Current research
I am currently a PhD-candidate in the 'Neanderthals and us' research project. In this project, we use the 'golden age' of Neanderthal research to challenge our self-perception as humans. I specifically study the research history and epistemology of human evolution and palaeolithic archaeology and research how colonial thought and enlightenment philosophy still impact those fields today. The project is a collaboration between the Erasmus School of Philosophy, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the faculty of archaeology, Leiden University, and the Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann (GER). The project is funded by NWO.
Teaching activities
I have co-taught courses focussing on the metatheoretical content of human origins discussions on the Master and Research Master levels.
Office days
Monday, Wednesday, and/or Friday.
