Julia Foudraine is a dual PhD candidate at Leiden University Dual PhD Centre. She is working on her research proposal concerning the international solidarity between Dutch and African labour unions.

Julia Foudraine studied History at the University of Utrecht, specialized in African history and Postcolonial Studies. After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in History, she got accepted at the Research Master African Studies – a research master of the University of Leiden and the African Studies Centre Leiden. During the master’s programme, she did historical and anthropological research in South Africa on the labour union AMCU after the so-called ‘Marikana Massacre’; a strike which ended with the death of 34 mineworkers in August 2012.
After obtaining her Research Master’s degree in 2014, Julia started working at the educational institute NCOI – first as a Study Counselor and later as an Educational Manager. She is currently working at TIAS Business School as a Thesis Coordinator. Besides her commitment to excellent education, Julia wants to continue her academic career. She has been connected to the Dual PhD Centre since September 2018 where she is currently working on her research proposal concerning the international solidarity between Dutch and African labour unions.
