Julia Baranowska is a PhD candidate at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Her research focuses on Aristotelian philosophical treatises on sleep and the related Byzantine commentaries by Michael of Ephesus and Sophonias. Additionally, she has a keen interest in ancient philosophy, particularly the works of Plato and Aristotle, as well as in ancient Greek language, logic, and theatre. She also works on translations from Latin and ancient Greek into Polish. Currently, she is involved in a project titled “Ovid and His Metamorphoses,” which involves preparing a new Polish translation of selected passages from the XV Book, a work she has been engaged with since the summer of 2022.

Research
My research focuses on the analysis of Aristotle's treatises on sleep and the translation and comparison of Byzantine commentaries on these texts. I am particularly interested in the intersections between Aristotle's original ideas and the interpretations provided by the commentators.
