Title research: Scientific expert body participation in multilateral treaty-making: Processes, rules and interfaces.

More information about Joseph Orangias

Joseph Orangias is a PhD candidate at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies, Leiden University. His doctoral research investigates the evidence base of multilateral treaties, with a focus on how scientific expert bodies participate in treaty-making processes. His project spans a range of areas of international law, fields of science and international organizations. 

Orangias holds a LL.M. Public International Law degree cum laude from Utrecht University, where he completed the LL.M. Honours Programme and 'Oceans, the Environment and Sustainability' specialty track, and a LL.B. Global Law degree cum laude from Tilburg University. He has received scholarships to study at the University of Cape Town's Faculty of Law and the Law Schools Global League Summer School. He won first prize in the Environmental Law Association of South Africa's 2020 student essay contest and has published papers in international peer-reviewed journals.

In addition, Orangias has years of experience practicing international environmental law and policy, including serving the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). He has also worked across the areas of refugee law, human rights law and the law of the sea at Utrecht Law School’s Law Clinic.
