Research project

Jesse started as a PhD researcher at the Environmental Biology department of CML in April 2023. His PhD falls under the scope of the ERC EcoWizard project (Innovative nanomaterials require ecologically-based safety assessment). He focuses on how microbes can alter the response to nanomaterials. With the aim to generalise and unravel the role of the microbiome within nanosafety.

Professional experience

Jesse started his studies at the Hogeschool Leiden with the BSc Biomedical Research and graduated on a project on the antibacterial activity of plant-derived compounds on S. aureus biofilms. He continued his studies at Leiden University with the MSc Biology From Cells to Organisms specialising in evolutionary, cell biology and bioinformatics. During his master, he studied the species distribution of Triturus newts in the Balkan Peninsula and graduated on a project on the effect of carbon sources on the morphology of Streptomyces.
