Jean-Jacques Hublin is Professor Emeritus of Paleoanthropology.
The Board of Leiden University has authorized the Faculty of Archaeology to appoint Prof. Dr. Jean-Jacques Hublin as professor of palaeoanthropology. Prof. Jean-Jacques Hublin is a world-leading specialist in palaeoanthropology, with a research focus on the Neanderthal lineage and its predecessors. Hublin is co-director of the famous Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, a leading institute in the study of human origins worldwide, with a staff - scientists and technicians combined – of more than 500 people.
In the past, Prof. Wil Roebroeks (Leiden University) and Professor Hublin have developed informal cooperation around the integration of biological and archaeological data on Neanderthals, which already led to some scientific papers (Hublin and Roebroeks 2009; Roebroeks, Hublin and MacDonald in press), including the publication of the first “Dutch” Neanderthal (Hublin et al. 2009), as well as some other joint activities.
