Janne van Doorn is working as an assistant professor of criminology at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology.
General
Janne van Doorn has been an assistant professor at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology since August 2016. She completed a Research Master in Social and Behavioral Sciences at Tilburg University. Janne subsequently started her PhD at the Tilburg Institute for Behavioral Economics Research (TIBER) and the Department of Social Psychology at Tilburg University. She defended her dissertation on the prosocial consequences of anger on November 19, 2014. She then worked as an external research assistant at the ‘Raad voor de Rechtspraak’ (Council for the Judiciary) in The Hague.
Research
With a background in (emotion) psychology, her research focuses on stereotyping and emotions in relation to crime/victimization. This includes themes such as the 'emotional victim effect', the role of stereotypes in the evaluation of victims, but also the study of emotions in urban environments (perception of safety).
Education
Janne is currently involved as a teacher in the course 'Introduction to Criminology' (propaedeutic phase) and she supervises students with their bachelor's and master's theses. She also provides education within Urban Studies (campus The Hague). She is also coordinator of extracurricular education, including the minor Criminology.
