Jan Meijer is a lecturer at the Institute of Political Science at Leiden University. His research interests include right-wing populism, Euroscepticism, and nationalism in Central and Eastern Europe – with a particular focus on Poland. He received his Bachelor’s degree cum laude in Liberal Arts and Sciences from University College Maastricht and his double Master’s degree with distinction in Central and Eastern European studies from University College London and Jagiellonian University in Kraków. He wrote his Master’s thesis on how post-communist property restitution has been framed in the Polish parliament as a question of social identity.
Before joining Leiden University, Jan has supported the research activities of the Horizon 2020 program ‘POPREBEL’, where he researched the phenomenon of populist Euroscepticism in the Polish political party landscape. In the past, he has worked as a policy officer at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as an educator for high school students at the Dutch parliament.
