Since November 2014 Jan de Keijser is working as a Professor of Criminology at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology.
Since November 2014 Jan de Keijser is working as a Professor of Criminology at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology. He is board member of The Netherlands Register of Court Experts (NRGD). He studied political science at Leiden University. In 2000 he got his Ph.D. (cum laude) at the same university. His Ph.D. research focused on consistency in sentencing in relation to the goals and functions of punishment. From 2000 until 2010 he was senior researcher at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR).
Research
His research interests are connected to the legitimacy of the criminal justice system. Apart from the decisions on proof and punishment in criminal cases, his research interests include public opinion towards punishment, confidence in the criminal justice system, and the communication between forensic experts and the courts. He published books and articles on these topics in both national and international journals.
