Isabel is a PhD candidate at the Environmental Biology Department at CML. Her research focuses on soil ecology and how to harness soil microbiome to enhance crop quality in agricultural systems.
Professional experience
Isabel has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Texas at El Paso where she explored desert and tundra ecosystems. For her master’s she join the Plant Biotechnology program at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute. During her time there, she explored the differences in soil microbiomes and root exudate composition between transgenic plants and their wild type counterparts.
Research Topic
As part of the Soil2Guts project, Isabel works with an interdisciplinary group aiming at understanding the connection between soils and crops microbiomes and their impact on human health. Specifically, she works on analyzing the effects of agricultural practices on soil functional biodiversity as well as on how can soil microbiomes can affect crop quality.
