Hetty de Rooij joined the Institute of Private Law on 1 September 2020. She works a lecturer and Academic Coordinator for the Advanced LL.M. in International Civil & Commercial Law.

Hetty de Rooij studied Dutch Law at the University of Amsterdam (LL.M., cum laude) and NYU School of Law. She joined Leiden University in September 2020 as a lecturer and the Academic Coordinator for the Advanced LL.M. in International Civil and Commercial Law.
Hetty was admitted to the Dutch Bar as a lawyer in 2008 and has spent over 11 years working in private practice at leading Dutch and international law firms. At De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, she was a Senior Associate in the international arbitration group. She has extensive experience in international dispute resolution, acting for clients in national and international arbitrations, mediations and proceedings before the Dutch courts. Hetty sits as an arbitrator and frequently serves as Secretary in arbitration tribunals.
Hetty's particular fields of interest include large-scale construction, energy and post-M&A disputes. She is currently working on a PhD under supervision from Professor J. J. van Haersolte-van Hof and Professor H. B. Krans. The title of her PhD thesis is 'Judicial review of jurisdictional decisions by arbitral tribunals'.
