Research

I am primarily fascinated by the often completely different images produced by the results of archaeological and historical research of the Middle Ages. This applies to research both on towns and on castles. The images may (apparently) be both complementary as well as contradictory. I am convinced that these images cannot be placed side by side without any commentary, as often still occurs today, but that they need to be actively translated with relation to both disciplines; it is only after this process has taken place that a real dialogue can develop. I am focussing my research on all three of these levels, on the analytical level of the historical and archaeological research into castles and towns but especially on the second level of relating the research results to the reciprocal disciplines and on the third level of synthesis.
