Research

Ms. Van Ling's graduate research has dealt with 'local nationalism' in China, for which she has conducted fieldwork in Shenzhen and Beijing. Her work focused particularly on identity formation and the historical narratives of China's history at the National Museum of China and the Shenzhen Museum. Her research interests continue to combine Chinese history and politics, focusing on twentieth century history in contemporary contexts. Other interests include Chinese Republican history, and the history of Hong Kong.
