Emilio joined the CML department as PhD researcher in Industrial Ecology in the summer of 2024. His research is focused on developing life cycle and prospective life cycle models for water management and treatment.
Professional experience
Emilio received his masters degree in Sustainable Resource Economics and Policy from University College London (UCL) in 2020. His thesis focused on the emergence of environmental trade-offs in transitional policies, focusing on the localised socio-economic and environmental impacts of lithium mining in Antofagasta (Chile).
After graduating, Emilio worked predominantly in research and consultancy, initially as a materials analyst in the built environment industry, followed by 3 years at the government and public-sector level, operating in the intersection between economics, policy and the environment. As part of this role, Emilio managed and led on numerous research commissions for national and regional governments in the UK.
Research topic
Emilio works in the FOREWARD project, which is part of a Sino-Dutch partnership that focuses on improving water processes. Specifically, the FOREWARD project aims to co-create models and technologies that can advance water treatment and management, whilst exploring ways in which to unlock the multiple social, economic and environmental benefits of an enhanced and more abled wastewater management system.
