In a diverse society, police officers must respond flexibly and effectively to different situations. For full participation of people with diverse backgrounds – both within society and the police – it is essential that diversity and inclusion are structurally promoted.

Leaders and supervisors play a crucial role in the professional development of aspiring police officers. But what support do they need to further professionalize themselves in the field of diversity and inclusion? As a social psychologist, in my research I use a cross-level perspective, in which I not only look at teachers and supervisors as individuals, but also at the broader social context. How do classes, learning teams, but also the organizational culture contribute to an inclusive approach in police education?
