Eduardo Alves Vieira is an Assistant Professor of Portuguese Language and Linguistics at the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics. He teaches at the BA/MA Latin American Studies programs and BA International Studies. Additionally, he supervises Ph.D. candidates, mostly working on queer linguistics.

I earned my Ph.D. in 2017 from the Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain), where I defended my thesis titled "Brazilian Portuguese in an International Context: A Sociolinguistic, Educational, Cultural, Economic, and Geopolitical Study" - a language policy study that examined the expansion of Portuguese worldwide as an international language.
I have many interests, such as language policies, language identities, critical discourse analysis, and multilingualism. In addition to being a sociolinguist, I am also a queer linguist.
My current queer linguistic project, which is funded by the Dutch Research Council – NWO, focuses on how the Brazilian Inclusive Churches movement influences the lives of LGBTQIA+ folks. In a second queer linguistic project, I investigate how the LGBTQIA+ dialect Pajubá fosters language variation in Brazil, queering Brazilian Portuguese.
