Diego Salama is a staff member at the International Studies department of Leiden University, where his research expertise lies in the History of the United Nations, Peacekeeping, and the Middle East. Diego has been actively engaged with the academic community at Leiden University, serving as a lecturer and tutor for both undergraduate and graduate courses on the History of the United Nations and Challenges to Internationalism. In April 2024, he successfully defended his dissertation titled "An Architecture for Peace: Deciphering the UN's Multidimensional Approach to the Israel-Arab Conflict (1967–1982)."

In addition to his teaching and research roles, Diego is the Managing Editor of the academic journal Global Governance: A Review of Multilateralism and International Organizations, published in collaboration with the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS).
On the policy front, Diego has been affiliated with the United Nations University (UNU-MERIT) since 2013, working in various capacities within Education, Communications, and Programme Management. He currently holds the position of Partnerships & Liaison Specialist, where his responsibilities include strategic partnerships, programme and project management, liaising with the UN system, overseeing institutional governance, and reporting to the UNU Council and the host country.
Diego holds a Master’s degree (cum laude) in International Relations and a PhD in History from Leiden University.
