Coen Wirtz studies the role of moral convictions in economic and public decision making.

Research

Wirtz is interested in the role of moral convictions in economic and public decision making. For example, how moral convictions predict sustainable behaviour or how perceived brand morality affects brand attitudes. He also investigates if appealing to moral values can change people's attitudes and behaviour, such as lowering meat consumption, buying more sustainable clothing, or accepting sustainable projects from municipalities.

Short CV

Wirtz obtained his PhD in Social Psychology at the University of Amsterdam, he also worked here as a lecturer in Social Psychology. After that, he worked as a lecturer in Communication Science at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Since 2019, he is an Assistant Professor at the unit of Social, Economic, and Organisational Psychology of Leiden University. He also works as an advisor at the Knowledge Centre for Psychology and Economic Behaviour, and as learning coordinator at Learning with the City. He develops and enhances socially involved education, participatory research in education, and independent self-regulated learning.
