Clara Calero-Medina is a senior researcher and director of innovation and impact at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University. She is a coordinator of the Information & Openness focal area and a member of the Engagement & Inclusion focal area.

Clara Calero-Medina is a senior researcher and director of innovation and impact at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University. She is a coordinator of the Information & Openness focal area and a member of the Engagement & Inclusion focal area.

Clara has a background in economics and in science and technologies studies. She obtained her PhD Degree in 2012 from Leiden University. In her thesis, Clara applied network analysis to scientific publications. In particular, she analyzed citation and co-authorship networks to study knowledge transfer and research collaboration. Another line of her research relates to the definition and scope of research organizations. During many years, Clara has been the head of a team creating and maintaining an inventory of different types of research organizations, their conditions of existence, and their relationships of dependency and affiliation to other organizations. This work is of crucial importance for the CWTS Leiden Ranking. Clara is also coordinating and managing different contract and institutional research projects carried out by CWTS, as well as being involved in many of these projects.

Since fall 2023, Clara has been a member of the board of the European Network of Indicators Designers (ENID).
