Professional Experience

Christina obtained a BBA (Business Administration) at Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen, an MA (Sustainable Development Cooperation) at TU Kaiserslautern, and an MSc (Applied Environmental Sciences) at TU Koblenz. Before becoming a researcher at Fraunhofer UMSICHT in Germany in 2022 where she is conducting most of her research as a PhD candidate, she worked at an international steel and technology company and a non-profit organization. She started as a PhD candidate at the department of Industrial Ecology in September 2024.

Research topic

Christina focuses on the quantification of the environmental impacts of plastic emissions on terrestrial ecosystems, including their fate (redistribution to other environmental compartments, fragmentation, and degradation), exposure of organisms to the emissions, and resulting effects. She aims to develop a methodology to integrate the assessment of plastic pollution impacts in Life Cycle Impact Assessment.
