Professional experience
Brenda is a PhD candidate at the Industrial Ecology department of the Institute of Environmental Sciences of Leiden University (CML). She holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Industrial Ecology. She has experience working in the Chemical Industry and collaborating with technology developers in the environmental and economic assessment of novel technologies towards a sustainable transition. For example, she has contributed to the Horizon 2020 projects HISER and SUSMAGPRO.
Research topic
As part of the SUSMAGPRO project, funded by the European Commission, her current research explores the sustainability of recycling pathways to produce rare-earth magnets. She is currently assessing the impact of possible future technological developments on the industrial implementation of a recycling supply chain for neodymium magnets in Europe, in contrast to their supply from mines.
