Benthe van Delft has been a PhD candidate at Leiden University's Department of Child and Health Law (Institute of Private Law) since September 2023. She conducts research into how the Halt intervention programme functions and relates to compliance with child rights in practice.

Education and career
Benthe van Delft completed her bachelor's degree in Criminology at Leiden University. After graduating, she went on to complete the master's in Forensic Criminology (Leiden University) and the master's in Criminology, specialising in Youth Criminology and Corporate & Organised Crime (Erasmus University Rotterdam). Following her studies, Benthe worked as a tutor in Erasmus University Rotterdam's Criminology department.
Research
Benthe has been appointed as a guest researcher at the WODC (Research and Data Centre), where she collaborates with the Youth Criminlogy research group that is conducting an impact assessment on the Halt intervention programme.
Halt is a juvenile crime prevention programme for young people aged between 12 and 17 who have committed criminal offences. Provided they successfully complete the programme, these young people will not receive any judicial records. The impact assessment on the Halt programme involves investigating for which young people and under which circumstances the Halt programme works. This is research project is a collaboration between Leiden University, the WODC and Utrecht University. Benthe's PhD position is financed by the Fund for the Study of Juvenile and Adolescent Crime, which was set up by the WODC and the Leiden University Fund (LUF).
