Benedetto Neola is a researcher at the Centre for the Arts in Society. Dr. Neola earned his BA in Classics and his MA in Classical Philology from the University of Naples Federico II. He holds a PhD in "Filosofia antica, tardo-antica, medievale e umanistica" and in "Philosophie," which he completed through a joint supervision between the University of Salerno (RAMUS) and Sorbonne Université (Paris IV, Centre Léon Robin). After a two-year von Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (Institut für Religionswissenschaft), which included a visitorship at Oxford University (Faculty of Theology and Religion), he is now a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral researcher at Leiden University (LUCAS). His current research examines the relationship between Neoplatonic doctrines of the soul and fourth-century Christological models. Dr. Neola’s research centers on Neoplatonism and Patristics, with particular focus on the doctrine of the soul, the interplay between transcendence and immanence, theology, exegesis, rituals, and ontological systems. In addition to publishing articles in international journals, he is the author of Il Platonismo di Ermia di Alessandria. Uno studio sugli In Platonis Phaedrum Scholia (Napoli, Loffredo, 2022) and Nemesio. L'uomo (Brescia, Morcelliana, 2024).
