Bart Verkuil is associate professor at the Clinical Psychology Unit. He is active in various courses in the bachelor and master curricula and supervises master thesis students. His research focusses on physiological aspects of psychopathology (anxiety and depression). Bart also works part-time as a licensed health care psychologist in training for licensed clinical psychologist at the Leiden University Treatment and Expertise Center (LUBEC).

Research
My research focuses on physiological aspects of psychopathology (anxiety and depression). I am particularly interested in the interplay between activity of our autonomic nervous system and perseverative cognitive processes, like worrying and ruminating. In 2014 I received a Veni grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) to examine whether stimulating the vagus nerve (a large nerve that forms part of the parasympathetic nervous system) affects worrying, both in laboratory settings as well as in daily life.
Grants
NWO Veni grant: Effects of transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation on perseverative cognition
Teaching
Experimental Clinical Psychology; Clinical Interviewing and Assessment; Thesis supervision (bachelor and master); Internship supervision; Coordination of the Psychodiagnostics course.
Ancillary Positions
- Clinical practice: Counseling psychologist (part-time) at Skils, the Hague.
