Research
Ayelet Kotler earned her PhD from the Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago. Her research interests include Indo-Persian literary culture, translation studies, Mughal history, Persian narrative literature and particularly narrative poetry, Sanskrit epics, and philology. Kotler's PhD dissertation, entitled "Persian Literary Translation in the Early Mughal Period," offers a historical and literary investigation of translation. Specifically, it studies processes of textual transposition, contemporary literary expectations, and competing notions of Persian-ness that shaped the resulting literary translation of narratives from the Sanskrit epics and story collections from the period between the 1580s and the 1690s.
Ayelet Kotler currently works as a Postdoctoral researcher in the ERC funded project PURANA (101054849), studying Persian translations of the Puranas from the 17th and 18th centuries.
